Riding the Hakone Tozan Railway through the mountains and forests felt very different from taking a regular train. The train slowly made its way along the mountainside, with lush forests and valley views appearing outside the window from time to time, allowing me to leisurely enjoy Hakone's natural scenery.

When you come to Hakone, riding the mountain railway is a little trip in itself. The train travels from Hakone-Yumoto to Gora, winding its way up the mountainside as the scenery outside changes with the elevation, with Hakone's lush green forests all around.
Then, transfer to the cable car to Sounzan. Looking out the window, the view gradually opens up, making the whole journey both relaxing and full of mountain charm.

The train climbs steep mountain slopes with impressive power. There are several switchbacks along the way, so you get the unique experience of the train changing directions. It's also really convenient that you can easily transfer to the Romancecar at Hakone-Yumoto Station!
