Cruise leisurely through the calm waters of Ine Bay on a sightseeing boat, admiring the traditional funaya boathouses built along the shore up close and experiencing the fishing village's unique history, culture, and relaxed atmosphere. Seagulls and black-tailed gulls often fly alongside the boat, and passengers can buy food to feed them, adding some interactive fun to the trip.

I visited Ine Bay in Kyoto on a weekday, and there weren’t many tourists, so the relaxed atmosphere made it especially calming.

This time, I joined the sightseeing boat cruise and tried feeding seagulls for the first time. It was even more fun than I expected! Once the boat left the harbor, a large flock of seagulls followed closely behind. As soon as you held up the feed, they would swoop in with amazing accuracy to grab it. The scene was both impressive and exciting.

Luckily, the weather was clear that day. The blue sky, the sea, and the Ine funaya boat houses complemented each other beautifully, like something on a postcard.

This special experience gave me lots of great photos and became one of the most unforgettable memories of my Kyoto trip. I highly recommend experiencing it for yourself when visiting Ine Bay!

If you come to Ine Bay in Kyoto, you definitely shouldn’t miss the sightseeing boat experience where you can feed the seagulls!

You can buy feed as soon as you get on the boat. The moment you take it out, flocks of seagulls come flying in from every direction, circling overhead and diving down to snatch the food. It was my first time seeing so many seagulls flying so close, and it was both amazing and a little nerve-racking.

The most exciting part was when an eagle suddenly appeared along the way. The seagulls scattered instantly, and the whole boat erupted with gasps and screams. The atmosphere was so lively!

It was thrilling and fun, and paired with the dreamy scenery of Ine Bay’s funaya houses, it’s definitely one of the most unforgettable experiences you can have when visiting Ine.
