It is located near Todaiji, the famous temple housing a giant Buddha statue in Nara.

I went there to try their lunch, where you can enjoy noodles with lots of meat! It's a sister restaurant to Hidamari-an, a popular steak restaurant in the neighborhood.

  “Sanuki udon” is one of Kagawa Prefecture’s specialty dishes. The prefecture is also home to a vast quantity of udon restaurants, and since oftentimes you can get a bowl for just 200 yen, going around and eating at multiple udon restaurants is fairly popular. This time, I visited “Suzaki Foods Shop,” a popular restaurant located on the west side of Kagawa Prefecture, and it’s so well-known that it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call it the mecca of sanuki udon!

  Lately, when you think of Shinsekai in Osaka, it’s become synonymous with kushikatsu. The restaurant that started this new trend is “Kushikatsu Daruma.” There are currently 18 locations of “Kushikatsu Daruma.” Even just within Shinsekai, where the chain originated, there are 4 locations, “Shinsekai Honten,” “Janjan,” “Tsutenkaku,” and “Dobutsuenmae.” This time, I decided to visit the largest location of them, “Kushikatsu Daruma Dobutsuenmae.”

  The first Omu-rice in Japan! “Hokkyokusei Shinsaibashi main branch” established in Osaka in 1922!

  This restaurant is located in the Shinsaibashi area of Osaka near Dotonbori. There is a section of Shinsaibashi called Amerika-Mura. It is a trendy area for the young generation. In Amerika-Mura there is a traditional Japanese house that captures everyone`s eyes. It is Osaka’s well known restaurant “Hokkyokusei”. This restaurant was established in 1922. Hokkyokusei is an Omu-rice speciality shop with more than 10 locations in department stores throughout Osaka. I went to eat lunch at the Hokkyokusei Shinsaibashi main branch.

His goal was to make a soup that is easy to digest that you could eat every day. Supposedly the ramen here has a unique, habit-forming taste. This time, I visited the “Ario Otori” store in Osaka Prefecture’s Sakai City.

  There is a ramen restaurant I have loved for a long time. Named Ten-Ten, Yu, it's a sister shop to Kyoto's famous flagship, Ten-Ten-Yu. A lot of regular customers seem to come to this ramen shop every day to enjoy the free Nira Kimchi, a spicy Korean pickled cabbage with Chinese chives (Nira in Japanese).

  The "Daigoku" restaurants have been operating in Namba and Dotonbori since 1902. Kayaku-Gohan, their signature dish, was noted in the 2017 Michelin Big Gourmand guide. Kayaku-Gohan is seasoned rice cooked with vegetables and meat, Kansai-style. It's a homemade rice dish cooked with soy sauce or dashi stock and your favorite ingredients.

After winning the 2016 Japanese Curry Awards, this restaurant has come to represent Osaka in terms of curry udon. It's so popular that lines form in front of the place, even in the middle of the night.

  Despite being in the Minami shopping district of Osaka, Hozenji Yokocho is a quiet, atmospheric area with cobbled stone streets. Yokocho is an 80-meter-long and 3-meter-wide street that’s full of well-known gourmet restaurants. Today I visited “Katsudon,” a restaurant that, as its name suggests, specializes in katsudon (pork cutlet bowls).

  In 2017, popular Osaka patisserie “Gokan” that has various locations in department stores opened a chocolate specialty store, “Cacaotier Gokan Koraibashi Main Store.” Using cocoa beans from plantations around the world, the pastry chefs make the chocolate in-house, following a classical “bean to bar” approach. I heard that they have a beef stew set made with cocoa for lunch, so I hurried up and went in for a visit!

  「Tachijyuu sono」 Enjoy cutlass fish cuisine with gusto in Osaka.

  「Tachijyuu sono」 is a Cutlass fish speciality shop in Osaka. It’s very rare to see a restaurant specialize in Cutlass fish and it`s even rare in Japan. As soon as the restaurant opens there are long line ups for the「Tachijyuu」 lunch. Lunch is limited to only 40 servings each day. Some people say the cutlass fish is as good as Unagi(eel) but cheaper and leaner.

  The high quality food offered at the 「Ajino Izakaya Sakura bar」. It was as good as a Ryotei(Japanese style high end restaurant)!

  Sakura Bar is an Izakaya well known by foodies. It’s just a 5 minute walk from Keihan Kiyomizu-gojo station . Though it’s an Izakaya(Japanese pub) they have a very good reputation. Many say their dishes are on par with what you would get at a Ryotei (expensive Japanese style restaurant). And it`s not just the locals who come to eat here, chefs also frequent this Izakaya. With this in mind, a trip to Sakura bar seems really promising.
