Kadoya Okaido Branch

Opened in 1955 as a local diner in Uwajima City, "Kadoya" now has a branch in Matsuyama, conveniently located near Matsuyama Castle, Dogo Onsen, and the city center. The pork cutlet was super crispy—you could really hear that crunch when you bite into it! The meat was tender and juicy, and their sauce was the perfect match. Plus, you can get free refills on rice, which made the meal extra satisfying. The location is right inside the Okaido shopping street, so it's the perfect spot to recharge after shopping. Highly recommend!

As the gateway to Naoshima, the port itself is designed with a real artistic touch. Even the terminal looks stylish.

MORIKUNI (Shodoshima sake brewery)

MORIKUNI is the one and only sake brewery located on the island of Shodoshima. The rice used in the brewing is the “Ooseto” sake rice from Kagawa, which has been partially cultivated in rice terraces in the Nakayama area of Shodoshima since 2015, and the yeast used is “Sanuki Olive Yeast,” developed from Shodoshima olives.

As the only sake brewery on Shodoshima, this place is both a restaurant and a shop where you can try lots of different sake. Too bad I can't really handle my alcohol 😂

Kobe's port opened to the world early on, so many of the shops here have been around for ages—some for over a hundred years! With new stores mixed in, you really get a sense of history blending together. It's a fantastic shopping street to explore.

Aburiniku Kobo Wakkoqu Kitanozaka Flagship Restaurant

Kitano city district is home to the very exotic Kobe Ijinkan-Gai (former foreign residential street). Located at its gateway is the “Wakkoqu Kitanozaka Flagship Restaurant”. A long-established restaurant where you can enjoy Teppanyaki (Japanese iron griddle cuisine) of Kobe beef in a western atmosphere with Japanese attention to detail.

I figured I had to try the famous local Kobe beef while in Kobe. Just a little salt brings out the pure flavor—the meat was so tender, it practically melted in my mouth. Thanks to the staff's explanation, I learned I was actually eating Tajima beef from Hyogo Prefecture, which was also delicious.

Ohara Museum of Art is housed in the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter and has on display a collection of modern and contemporary art works. In 1930, Ohara Magozaburo, a local businessman, established this nation’s first private museum for western arts.

The Kurashiki Bikan area is a wonderful place, perfect for a relaxing day. The Ohara Museum of Art has an amazing collection, including Yayoi Kusama's dots and Monet's garden. There are four exhibition halls, so it's worth getting a combo ticket to see them all at once.

A historic shop that has been selling Mamegashi (nut and bean confectionery), since its establishment in Meiji 27 (1894). The shop has a wide variety of peanut and soybean products available with a range of seasoning, such as salt, ume (plum) and matcha.
