Hokkaido Ramen Santouka Asahikawa Honten (Flagship Store)

Santouka began when the founder Hatanaka announced to his family that he was going to make delicious ramen. After trials, errors, and improvement, he came up with his unique pork bone white soup which is well-rounded. The restaurant is now located internationally and popular regardless of the nationality of customers.

I ordered the shoyu ramen. The broth had a layer of oil on top and lots of sesame seeds sprinkled over it. The two pieces of fatty chashu were flavorful and delicious, and the taste wasn't too salty. I was really satisfied.

At the eastern edge of the Aizu Basin, Iimoriyama is a leading tourist destination in Aizuwakamatsu City, attracting around two million visitors a year. The 314-meter-high hill can be ascended not only by foot but also via a paid escalator for easy access.

Iimoriyama offers several hiking routes for visitors, with different levels of difficulty and length. Of course, you can also just take the escalator. Most trails pass through beautiful forests and mountain paths, making for a pleasant hiking experience.

Oshinkoshin Falls, also known as "Soubi Falls" because the stream splits into two halfway down, has been selected as one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan.

Oshinkoshin Waterfall is about 30 meters tall, and the water drops straight down from above—it's really impressive. When you climb up to the Oshinkoshin observation deck, you get an amazing view of the Sea of Okhotsk and the Shiretoko mountains. I couldn't help but be in awe of how nature created such a beautiful place. It's definitely worth a visit for these stunning views.

Cape Notoro

Cape Notoro, with its towering cliffs of 40-50 meters high, juts out into the Sea of Okhotsk. The name "Notoro" is derived from the Ainu language, meaning "place of the cape."

Cape Notoro is pretty flat and surrounded by huge lagoons and bays, making it a spectacular spot to check out the ocean. The views are super open, and there’s also a ton of wildlife here—you can spot lots of different birds. Great place for nature lovers!

Abashiri Prison Museum

Abashiri Prison Museum is an outdoor history museum located in the Abashiri National Park area. On a site equivalent to 3.5 times the size of Tokyo Dome, the former Abashiri Prison buildings have been relocated, restored, preserved, and opened to the public.

The Abashiri Prison Museum is really unique. They even have interactive experiences, like a theater where you can feel what it was like for prisoners through videos, and you can try prison meals too. It's not just about looking at prison history—you actually get to experience and understand it. Definitely more engaging than a typical museum.

Sanroku-gai (3・6Town)

Asahikawa's "Sanroku-gai (3・6Town) " is said to be the second largest in Hokkaido after Sapporo's Susukino. The name "Sanroku-gai" is said to derive from its location in the 3jodori 6-chrome (SAN-jo-Dori ROKU-chome) area in the center of Asahikawa City and its site at the foot of Mt. Taisetsuzan = Taisetsuzan no Sanroku (Pronunciation in Japanese).

Cape Soya is the northernmost tip of mainland Japan. The monument "Northernmost Point of Japan" stands proudly at latitude 45 degrees 31 minutes 22 seconds, making it an excellent photo spot. Takasago Shuzo Inc.

Established in 1899, Kohiyama Shuzo, a historical Sake brewery, called as Nada in Hokkai, was the 4th-established Sake brewery in Asahikawa. Merged with Ishizaki Shuzo in 1965, a new company restarted as the name of Takasago Shuzo.

The water at Kamui Kotan is crystal clear and emerald green, surrounded by dense forests and beautiful mountains. It's peaceful and quiet here, perfect for a stroll or hike while enjoying the natural scenery. Really pleasant and relaxing.

Asahikawa Kitasaito Garden

Connected to Asahikawa Station, Asahikawa Kitasaito Garden is placed in a rare location - in the middle of a city. Passing the west concourse of the station and reaching the “Shopping Park” in the city, you can appreciate the grand Chubetsu River and the rich nature in the northern land.
