Bandai City is probably the best area for shopping in central Niigata, but overall it’s only moderately lively. If you’re expecting a shopping district like those in Sapporo or Sendai, you might be a little disappointed.

Osteria Villa Della Casa
A sister restaurant of “Osteria Della Casa,” a beloved Italian spot in Sapporo’s Hiragishi area for over 30 years. It’s on the 4th floor of Odori Bisse (Odori BISSE), a commercial complex near the intersection of Ekimae-dori and Odori Park. Now you can enjoy the charm of the neighborhood flagship-known for its homemade flavors and devoted regulars-right in central Sapporo.
The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and doesn't feel overly formal or stuffy. The dishes use plenty of seasonal Hokkaido ingredients, and you can taste their freshness and natural flavors. The food is simple but satisfying.

Yokohama Chinatown
Yokohama Chinatown, one of Japan’s three major Chinatowns, is a district lined with countless Chinese restaurants. From affordable dishes you can enjoy as takeout or all-you-can-eat meals to authentic Chinese cuisine, there are options to suit your budget.
Mingfu's Peking duck is one of the main highlights here. The skin is roasted until nicely fragrant and crispy, and it really is good wrapped in a pancake with green onions and sauce. However, I thought the other dishes were hit or miss. Some were tasty, while others were just on par with typical Chinese food.

Takaoka City Fujiko F. Fujio Hometown Art Gallery
Fujiko F. Fujio was the manga artist behind Doraemon and many other works. At this art gallery in Takaoka, where he spent his childhood, visitors can explore his journey as a manga artist through an extensive collection of materials and discover the appeal of his work.
I grew up watching Doraemon, so coming here really brought back a lot of feelings. Although it isn't a huge museum, the exhibits have a lot of character. Seeing the familiar characters and works brought all my childhood memories rushing back.
