Okinawa's American Village has a strong international atmosphere, with colorful buildings and a waterfront promenade that make you feel as though you're on the coast of California. In the evening, sit on the seaside jetty and watch the afterglow of the sunset. The golden sunset is mesmerizingly beautiful. Besides being great for shopping and photos, you can also enjoy popular, freshly made authentic Okinawan rice balls and sata andagi, traditional Okinawan doughnuts that are crisp outside, soft inside, and sweet and delicious. It's a distinctive spot that perfectly combines beautiful scenery with delicious local food!

Zao Onsen
Natural hot springs in Zao Onsen are said to have opened in 110 A.D. The strong acidic sulfur spring is known as the “Springs of Beauty” for its effects of sterilizing and strengthening the skin.

Yura River Bridge
The Kyoto Tango Railway’s Miyatoyo Line connects Miyazu Station in Miyazu and Nishi-Maizuru Station in Maizuru, Kyoto Prefecture. Spanning the Yura River between Tango-Kanzaki and Tango-Yura stations is Kyoto Prefecture’s longest railway bridge, measuring 552 m.
This time, I specifically planned to ride the distinctive Akamatsu sightseeing train. The most anticipated and iconic highlight of the entire route was definitely the moment when the train slowly crossed the Yura River Bridge.
When the train reaches this point, the tracks seem to extend directly toward where the deep blue sea meets the sky. From a distance, the train looks like it’s floating on the water. The view is so beautiful that it resembles the sea train scene from Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away—super dreamy and breathtaking. Here’s a useful tip: be sure to stand at the very front of the first car. Through the large windows, you can enjoy an unobstructed view of the spectacular scenery as the train crosses the bridge. It will definitely leave you in awe and is a dreamlike experience that train enthusiasts and photography lovers shouldn’t miss.

Nagaoka Kyo Ogura Sanso “Karuta Hyakunin Isshu”
Based in Nagaokakyo City, Kyoto Prefecture, Ogura Sanso is a long-established confectionery shop specializing in rice crackers. The brand is known for creating products that reflect the elegance of Heian-period culture and the world of classical Japanese poetry, particularly the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu anthology.
The first time I tried Ogura Sanso rice crackers in Taiwan, given to me by a friend, I was completely won over by the elegant, refined packaging and the delicate, crispy texture. Every variety has a rich, natural rice aroma that makes you fall in love at first bite.
Since I was traveling in Kyoto this time, of course I took the opportunity to buy some in person. I found that they have counters in many large department stores, and the dazzling selection of gift boxes and flavors was almost overwhelming. Best of all, you can also buy limited-edition packaging released for special holidays, making it perfect either as a gift or for yourself. It’s definitely a classic must-buy souvenir when visiting Japan. If you like rice crackers, don’t miss it.
