Walking into the grounds of Naminoue Shrine, even though the site isn't large, the peaceful atmosphere immediately puts your mind at ease. Since ancient times, this has been a sacred place of worship dating back to the Ryukyu Kingdom, mainly for praying for safe voyages, peace and good fortune, and protection from misfortune. Besides paying your respects, the shrine's amulets are also quite beautifully and uniquely designed. The ones with Okinawan ocean themes or cute designs especially make you want to take one home as a souvenir.

After visiting the shrine, don't miss the hidden highlight nearby--follow the path down to the famous Naminoue Beach. From here, you can look up at Naminoue Shrine standing on the cliff, framed by crystal-clear turquoise water and white sand. It's as beautiful as a postcard and a great angle for photos.

I highly recommend including Naminoue Shrine in your city walking itinerary when visiting Okinawa. Not only is it easy to get to and close to Naha Airport, but you can also enjoy unbeatable ocean views and the area's rich Ryukyuan history and culture all in one trip!
