In Nikko, besides Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Falls, what captivated me most was the majestic Mount Nantai. Mount Nantai is one of Nikko’s most iconic mountains. Its imposing form is spectacular even from a distance, and together with the scenery of Lake Chuzenji, the whole landscape feels both peaceful and magnificent.

As you admire Mount Nantai from along the lakeshore, you can see the mountain scenery change with the weather and light. Sometimes it is shrouded in clouds and mist, while at other times it is fully visible. Looking back at Mount Nantai from near Lake Chuzenji, with the mountain and lake blending together, is truly beautiful.

The Maple Mania's Maple Butter Cookies were one of the souvenirs I brought back from this trip, and I absolutely loved them.

The cookies are crisp and crunchy, with rich maple butter sandwiched in the middle. When you take a bite, you first taste the buttery aroma, followed by the sweet maple flavor spreading through your mouth. The two flavors go together very smoothly. The sweetness is just right, too, so they don't become too rich after just a few bites.
Mukashi no Yabaton (Osu)

Known for its pork cutlets with a secret miso sauce, including the famous "Teppan Tonkatsu" and "Waraji Tonkatsu," Yabaton opened a new concept store called "Mukashi no Yabaton" in 2020 near Osu Kannon Temple (Shinpukuji Hoshoin), at the entrance of Osu Kannon-dori Shopping Street. True to its name, this location recreates the original Yabaton of 1947 (Showa 22), with a retro building and a large sign featuring the store's mascot, "Boo-chan."

When you come to Nagoya, of course you have to try Yabaton's classic pork cutlet. The thick cutlet has a crispy coating, while the meat inside remains tender. Just seeing it served piping hot is enough to whet your appetite.

The most distinctive feature is the generous amount of miso sauce poured over it. The rich red miso has a savory-sweet aroma and adds layers of flavor to the crispy pork cutlet. Eating it with shredded cabbage helps balance out the richness of the miso.

This was my first time trying Nagoya's famous miso pork cutlet, and it was quite different from a regular pork cutlet. From the cutlet to the miso sauce, everything had a strong local character. After finishing it, I felt like I had checked off one of Nagoya's signature foods.
The 3D Cat at Shinjuku East Exit

Located above the East Exit plaza of Shinjuku Station, one of the busiest train stations in the world, the giant 3D calico cat peers down at passersby in a dynamic video display. Since its debut in July 2021, the lifelike, seemingly popping-out 3D cat has captured widespread attention and has been featured in both domestic and international media.

One of the most eye-catching sights on the streets of Shinjuku is the hugely popular giant 3D cat! Look up and you'll see it on a massive screen high above the street. The image is so three-dimensional that it looks as if the cat might jump out of the screen at any moment, and even its fur and movements look incredibly lifelike.

The most interesting part is that the cat stretches, yawns, and pokes its head out to look down at the street. Combined with the glasses-free 3D effect, it feels as if a giant cat really lives inside a building in Shinjuku.

When visiting Shinjuku, besides shopping, don't forget to look up and find this adorable cat and experience the unique appeal of technology and creativity coming together on the streets of Tokyo.
