At the entrance to the Ichiran branch on Dazaifu Sando, you can spot its eye-catching sign with the classic red and green color scheme from far away. There is always a long line outside, along with a large poster advertising the Fukuoka-exclusive ramen, showing just how popular this place is. While waiting in line and looking at the storefront, you can feel the lively atmosphere that makes this branch different from the others.

The most impressive and highly anticipated offering is the exclusive “Success Ramen” series. As soon as it arrives, you’ll notice that the ramen is served in a specially designed pentagonal “Success Bowl,” covered with lucky patterns and words wishing for success on exams. The bowl isn’t the only distinctive feature—the noodles are also made into extra-long, 59-centimeter “Success Noodles,” symbolizing lasting good fortune. You can feel how much thought the restaurant has put into every detail.

Once seated and ready to eat, the tonkotsu ramen arrives with a rich aroma. The white broth, topped with bright green scallions and tender chashu, looks instantly appetizing. Slurping up the extra-long noodles soaked in the rich broth is very satisfying, with a pleasantly firm texture.

This exclusive dish perfectly combines local character, the culture of praying for good fortune, and Ichiran’s signature tonkotsu ramen. From the visual appeal of the pentagonal bowl to the delicious taste, the whole experience leaves a very strong impression. If you visit Dazaifu Sando without stopping in for a bowl of their signature Success Ramen, it really feels like something is missing from the experience.

In front of the main hall at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, the large wooden roof and ornate carvings with gold decorations are really distinctive. Lots of visitors were gathered in front, sincerely offering their prayers. The entire building has a strong old-fashioned atmosphere, and the texture of the wood combined with the finely crafted eaves gives it a solemn feeling. Just standing in front of it, you can really feel the weight of its history.

When you walk around to the pond and arched bridge, the atmosphere becomes completely different. The lush greenery feels incredibly refreshing. The tall red arched bridge spans the calm water, tightly surrounded by several large trees covered in moss, with branches spreading out in every direction. Walking along the stone path beside it with a gentle breeze blowing was completely relaxing.

In other parts of the grounds, you can also see the very famous bronze sacred ox statue. It rests quietly on a stone pedestal, with a small red-and-white cord tied around its head, making it look especially charming. Many people passing by reach out to touch the ox's head, which is said to bring good luck. Seeing it in person really gives you a sense of the local character.

Taking my time along the whole route, whether looking at the old shrine buildings, crossing the red arched bridge and seeing the reflections on the water, or touching the sacred ox, everything felt very leisurely. There was none of that pressure to rush through an itinerary. Almost any angle makes for an atmospheric photo, and it's a great place that makes you want to slow down and truly enjoy a relaxing time.

In the plaza at Kokura Castle, the imposing main castle building with its white walls and black roof tiles immediately catches your eye. Large pine branches stretch out beside it, and with a perfectly clear, sunny sky, it felt great. The whole plaza is flat and open, so it doesn't feel cramped at all. Just standing there and looking at the castle's exterior was really nice.

Walking over to the moat gives you a completely different feeling. The old stone walls are covered with green plants, and the water in the moat is so calm that it reflects all the surrounding scenery, blue sky, and white clouds. Slowly wandering and walking along the moat, with everything quiet around you, was such a comfortable and carefree stroll with no need to rush.

After climbing up high and looking down, the view suddenly becomes incredibly expansive. The traditional Japanese garden below, the modern high-rise buildings in the distance, the river, and the distant mountains all blend together. The contrast between the historic site and the modern concrete buildings is really interesting, and you can take in the entire Kokura cityscape at a glance.

Looking out from the observation area, the blue sky is filled with clusters of white clouds, while the green park and city buildings below are all within view. The whole visit can be summed up in one word: refreshing. There was no pressure to rush through an itinerary at all. You can take photos and look around however you like. It's truly a great place to clear your mind and wander around.
