【Higashiomi City 2-Day Recommended Itinerary】Experience the nature and culture of Lake Biwa and a Japanese Heritage Site
Higashiomi City is located on the east side of Lake Biwa, the largest freshwater lake in Japan, and has a long city area stretching from east to west from Lake Biwa to the Suzuka Mountains, a mountain range with 1,000-meter-high sacred peaks.

The legend of Koretaka Shinno, said to be the founder of the Kijishi (woodturner), also remains.
The area was recognized for its respect for the blessings of water and its ingenuity in incorporating it into daily life.
Please experience the wonder of nature and traditions passed down through the generations on this 2-day/1-night trip as you tour the area in search of the fascinating scenery recognized as a Japan Heritage site.
What is Japan Heritage?
It is a system under which the Agency for Cultural Affairs selects stories that tell of culture and tradition through the historical charms and characteristics of a region.
The system aims to protect cultural assets while at the same time revitalizing them and disseminating them to the world. In Shiga Prefecture, "Lake Biwa and its Surrounding Waters : the Water Heritage of Prayers and Lifestyle" has been certified as a Japan Heritage site.
In Higashiomi City, three of the city's cultural assets have been certified: "Iba Waterside Sightseeing", "Townscape of Gokasho Kondo (Omi Merchant Houses)", and "Eigenji Temple and Okueigenji Mountain Village Scenery".
How to get to Higashiomi City?
The entrance on the first day of this itinerary is JR Notogawa Station.
