Japan’s New Tax-Free Shopping System and the “Enjoy! Japan Tax-Free Shopping” Campaign
To enter the “Enjoy! Japan Tax-Free Shopping” campaign, participants first read “How to Get a Tax Refund” on TaxFree.jp to learn about Japan’s new tax-free shopping system, then take a quiz to enter the prize draw.
Held as part of the Japan Shopping Festival, one of Japan’s largest shopping events for international visitors, the campaign runs from November 1 to November 30, 2026. Two winners will be selected at random to receive round-trip international flight tickets to Japan with Japan Airlines (JAL), departing from a city outside Japan served by the airline.
The campaign is open to foreign nationals residing outside Japan who are planning or considering a trip to Japan, as well as international travelers currently visiting the country. The campaign is available in four languages: English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.
Enter the Tax-Free Quiz Campaign in Two Easy Steps
Entering the campaign is easy and takes just two steps. First, learn about Japan’s new tax-free shopping system, then take the quiz. Even if you’re unfamiliar with the new system, you can learn the basics before entering.
STEP 1 | Learn About Japan’s New Tax-Free Shopping System
First, read “How to Get a Tax Refund” on the campaign website to learn about the new tax-free system, which takes effect on November 1, 2026. Once you’ve learned the basics of the process, from shopping and departing Japan to receiving your tax refund, you’re ready to move on to the quiz.
STEP 2 | Take the Tax-Free Quiz and Enter to Win
Once you've learned about the new tax-free shopping system, open the campaign's Google Form. Answer the quiz questions, fill in the required information, and submit your entry. The entry deadline is 11:59 p.m. Japan Standard Time (JST) on November 30, 2026. Each person may enter only once.
Win a Round-Trip Flight to Japan! Two Lucky Winners Will Receive JAL Tickets
Two winners will be selected at random to receive round-trip international Economy Class tickets on Japan Airlines (JAL) flights to Japan, departing from a city outside Japan served by JAL.
The tickets are valid for round-trip travel on the same route and may only be used on international flights operated by Japan Airlines under a JAL flight number. All travel must be completed by March 31, 2027.
The tickets cannot be booked or used for travel during the following periods: December 25-31, 2026, and January 1-11, 2027. Winners are responsible for airport taxes, fuel surcharges, and any other applicable fees.
