Hida Great Limestone Cave & Ohashi Collection Kan Museum

Located between Hida Takayama and Okuhida Hot Spring Villages, it is one of the most famous limestone caves in Japan, with a total length of about 800 meters. Amongst the sightseeing limestones, it is also known for being located at the highest altitude in Japan. Inside the cave, which was created naturally over a period of time from coral reefs 250 million years ago, you can see intricate white stalactites. One of the features of the cave is that it has the largest number of rare stalactites called "helictites" among all the limestone caves in Japan.

The cave is lit up and you can dive into the dreamy world. On March 1, 2017, the cave was selected as a "sacred place for lovers”. You can decorate the cave with "vow keys" and “wooden plaques” on which lovers write their prayers or wishes.

You can also visit the cave nearby called "Ryomen Sukuna Cave" where the character "Ryomen Sukuna" from the popular manga "Jujutsu Kaisen" is said to have lived.

Wine, sake, and shochu, which are stored at low temperatures in the cave environment, are also popular as souvenirs. The "Ohashi Collection Hall", which is also located in the cave, displays about 1,000 pieces of art and ornaments from around the world collected by the late Toyoshi Ohashi, the discoverer of the Hida Great Cave.
