Matsudaya Hotel

A historical inn where you can feel the spirit of the visionaries who accomplished the Meiji Restoration.

Last update :

It's renowned as the lodging where the visionaries who achieved the remarkable feats of the Meiji Restoration gathered. On the first floor, in the "Meiji Restoration Library", you can see valuable materials from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji era, allowing guests to immerse themselves in historical romance throughout the hotel.

The large communal bath, "Kura no Yu", overlooks the garden of the old Kawaraya, a place where many visionaries once gathered. Inside this building, which was relocated from a warehouse built 85 years ago, there are two bathtubs named "Ryoma no Yu" and "Oryo no Yu". Additionally, the "Ishin no Yu" family bath was built in 1860, and it's said that figures like Takasugi Shinsaku, Kido Takayoshi, Saigo Takamori, Okubo Toshimichi, Ito Hirobumi, Yamagata Aritomo, and Sakamoto Ryoma bathed in it when they met at this inn.

Guest rooms range from traditional Japanese rooms to twin rooms. Particularly, the rooms in the main building, constructed during the Taisho era, boast views of the Japanese garden, offering the richest ambiance. For dinner, enjoy the unique flavors of Yamaguchi, surrounded by sea and mountains. There's also a seasonal "Fugu Course" available from October to March.
