When the mountain in the country is covered with pale pink gradation, Hanamiyama Park truly looks like a fairyland. Surrounded by the flowery patchwork, soak yourself in a happy dream there.

Everyone around Fukushima knows this cherry blossom spot, which began with a farmer's wish. At the beginning of Showa Period, one of the farmers, Isejiro Abe, was transitioning from silkworm farming to flower cultivation, who tried to make a living by clearing a mountain and planting flowering trees for sales to flower shops. In time, many started requesting a tour on the mountain full of lovely booms. To share the delight with more people, Hanamiyama Park was opened in 1959.

In spring, a variety of cherries, plums, flowering peach and yulan magnolia - nearly 70 species of flowers - bloom in staggering seasons. The Park has walking courses of 30, 45 and 60 minutes. Choose the one that suits your strength and travel plans.

Highlights

  • Almost 200,000 visit this flowering spot every year.
  • The blooming season is from late March to early May. Cherry’s blossoming peak is from late March until mid April.
  • During the traffic regulation from late March until mid April, use the shuttle bus from the temporary parking lot in the Abukuma Water Park.
  • If the timing is right, you can see the cherry blossoms and the “Snow Rabbit on Mt. Azuma,” the remaining snow in a rabbit shape on the slopes of Mount Azuma-kofuji.
