This is the only museum in Japan dedicated to the comprehensive and specialized exhibition and introduction of Kutani ware, a traditional handicraft representing Ishikawa Prefecture. Visitors can learn about the more than 365 years of history of Kutani ware and the various styles of painting that have been created during that time, while thoroughly appreciating the masterpieces.

Kutani ware was born in the early Edo period.
The discovery of pottery stones in Kutani Village (now Yamanaka Onsen Kutani Town, Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture) led to the construction of kilns for firing porcelain, and the production of ceramics began. Over time, various painting styles emerged. The most common styles are "Aote", "Iroe/Gosaite ", and "Aka-e/Kintante ".

"Aote" is a style in which the entire vessel is vividly painted with colored pigments, and the green colored pigments are used in impressive color schemes. In "Iroe (Gosaite)," the motifs are depicted in a painterly and realistic manner by freely using the Kutani five-color pigments (green, yellow, purple, navy blue, and red). Akae (Kinrante) is a style of fine painting called "fine painting" that takes advantage of the special characteristics of red pigments, which do not bleed easily, to cover the entire vessel, and many pieces are glamorously decorated with gold. Today, the style is attracting attention as an art form that transcends the boundaries of traditional craftsmanship, and a wide variety of vessel designs are being created.

The museum also has a tea house where seasonal teas are served using Kutani ware.
Visitors can enjoy a relaxing moment with beautiful works of art.
