Suzuki Daisetz, known as D. T. Suzuki in the world, is a Buddhist philosopher from Kanazawa. This museum shares Suzuki’s ideas, thoughts and his life. With the wish for visitors to learn about him and contemplate their own life, it was opened on October 18, 2011. Though it stands at the heart of a city, the building is surrounded in a profound peace to allow you to forget time.

An international architect, Yoshio Taniguchi designed the three buildings - Entrance Wing, Exhibition Wing and Contemplative Wing - and three gardens - Vestibule, Roji and Water Mirror Gardens. All the wings and gardens are connected with corridors, allowing you to stroll as you would like. Also, there are the three areas, Exhibition Space, Learning Space and Contemplative Space. As you follow the route, you can get to know Suzuki Daisetz and his ideas while pondering your own life.

The museum is sometimes illuminated during special events, giving the space a mystical ambience. There is also a peaceful early morning event, “An Encouragement of Morning Contemplation,” every other month.
