This shopping street is located in Tate-machi, one of the central districts of the castle town of Kanazawa with Approx. 400 years of history. Its main street, Tate-machi Street, flourished as the Hokuriku region’s largest fashion hub, and today around 150 shops of many different kinds line the street, not limited to fashion alone. It is also close to popular Kanazawa sightseeing spots such as the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Kenroku-en Garden, and the Nagamachi Samurai District, making it especially convenient for sightseeing and strolling around the city.
The area is home to a wide variety of shops, from apparel stores to long-established tea and kimono shops, trendy sweets shops, accommodations, and live music venues. Many of them are full of character, so simply wandering down the street is sure to lead to fun discoveries. The street becomes pedestrian-only every day from 12:00pm to 7:00pm and fills with people enjoying shopping and food. Events such as Tate Fest and the Tate-machi Film Festival are also held here, so be sure to check the official website.
