Last update :

The Chikuma River Wine Valley area is coming into a lime light lately for the conditions perfect for grape cultivation. Manns Wines started a winery here in 1973 as one of the first companies. They produce Solaris series used for the first class guests on international flights and national VIPs along with a variety of other wines.

Their premises have a 2.5-acre Japanese garden “Bansuien” where visitors are welcome to stroll. Look around for a tea room with a fine curved beam and a monument inscribed with a poem of the famous writer Shimazaki Toson. When you go down the stairs in the corner of the garden, you will reach the basement wine cellar. It is usually closed off, but during events or winery tours (with a fee), you can see it. Also, the vineyard grown with Manns Wines’ original “Rain Cut Cultivation Method” is open to visitors from late August to early November.

In the adjoining shop, you can taste the wines for a fee which are sold there. It is a special privilege at a winery that you can buy the wine that you know you like.
