Setoda Port on Ikuchijima Island was once a hub of maritime traffic in the Setouchi Area. In March 2021, the historical residence of the Horiuchi family, which prospered in the shipping and salt manufacturing industries, will be reborn as a Japanese ryokan.
Mr. Adrian Zecha, a world-renowned hotelier, was in charge of the project. The hotel is said to have pursued the spirit of home-like hospitality and richness that creates empathy with the local community as its top priority.
Architect and SUKIYA-ZUKURI (one of Japanese architectural style) expert Shiro Miura renovated the 1876 building while carefully preserving its precious columns, beams, and design. The simple, high-quality space in harmony with nature is open and airy, and the balance of Japanese and Western, traditional and modern, light and shadow, is superb.

Dinner in the dining room is prepared using French techniques, with vegetables from the Setouchi area, centering on Setoda, as the main ingredient. The dishes are served in gorgeous dishes served in vessels inherited from the head of the Horiuchi family. The chef has deepened his understanding of local ingredients by talking with the producers, and you can experience the "flavor" of these ingredients.
