The “Shuri Kinjo-cho Stone Paved Path” was paved in the 16th Century during the Ryukyu Kingdom age, as part of the Pearl Road, which connects Shuri Castle with various districts. The Shuri Kinjo Stone Slope is located 500m away from Shuri Castle in a quaint neighborhood. The stone-paved path, with an average width of about 4 meters and paved with Ryukyu limestone of about 20-30 cm, extends for about 300 meters.

The Pearl Road used to be a 4km road that connected Madan Bridge over the Kokuba River , but was destroyed during the Second World War in the Battle of Okinawa. The Shuri Kinjo Town, where the stone paved path is located, miraculously survived the warfire. The stones still surround the road and houses. As part of the prefecture’s best sights, it is an important space that keeps the legacy of the Ryukyu Kingdom. The stone paved path is rough and rugged, it is also slippery when wet. Make sure to wear sneakers or comfortable shoes when visiting.

Near the stone road is Uchikanagusukutaki, which enshrines gods. Visitors can see a 200 year old Akagi tree, which is the spirit tree. Make sure to follow manners and refrain from talking, as locals consider it a sacred place.
