Daimaru Shinsaibashi Store

A traditional department store in Shinsaibashi that incorporates new elements.

Last update :

Facing Midosuji, the main street of Osaka, this department store has been loved as the face of Shinsaibashi for nearly 300 years since its establishment. In 2019, the main building was rebuilt for the first time in 86 years and reopened. The design and materials of the old main building, which were handled by William Merrell Vories, an architect active from the Meiji to Showa eras, are used both inside and outside, creating a space that feels tradition in the newness.

The main building, which houses more than 300 stores, is attractive for its varied floor layout that overturns the image of traditional department stores. On the 10th floor restaurant area, there are many famous shops that convey Japan's rich food culture, and on the 9th floor, which has a VIP room for foreign tourists and a duty-free procedure corner, there are also shops related to Japanese pop culture, such as manga and games, which are popular overseas.

The "Shinsaibashi Food Hall" on the 2nd basement floor, which is filled with a variety of gourmet dishes unique to Osaka, the city of foodies, is also conveniently connected to the Shinsaibashi Station on the Osaka Metro.
