Otaru Sakaimachi Dori Shopping Street

Otaru's main street where you can enjoy retro scenery and shopping.

Last update :

Located just one street away from the main thoroughfare facing the Otaru Canal, Sakaimachi-dori flourished during the Meiji and early Showa periods, becoming Otaru's main street. Stretching about 1,300 meters from the Melhen intersection to Nippon Ginko Street, this shopping street is lined with stone-built Western-style buildings and warehouses from that era, offering a nostalgic atmosphere for leisurely strolls and shopping.

This charming shopping street with its retro townscape boasts nationwide-famous confectionery shops like "LeTAO," renowned for their western-style sweets, and "Kamae," known for their kamaboko products like bread rolls. It features a diverse lineup of eateries, including sushi restaurants using fresh seafood unique to Hokkaido, seafood bowl shops, cafes, and bars, as well as a wide variety of souvenir shops and miscellaneous goods stores. Some craft shops offer hands-on experiences such as glass blowing, making dragonfly balls, and crafting music boxes, making them ideal for commemorating your journey.
