Located on Gion Shinbashi Street, a Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, “Giwon Komori” is a Japanese sweets cafe housed in a former teahouse. Inside, touches like a small well and courtyard garden preserve the atmosphere of the old teahouse, while the sound of the Shirakawa Stream makes it an inviting place to take a break.

Popular items include Kyoto-style matcha sweets such as the “Warabi Mochi Parfait,” “Matcha Warabi Mochi,” and “Matcha Bavarois Parfait.” The cafe never compromises on ingredients, carefully selecting items such as Tokachi dainagon azuki beans and Yoshino kudzu starch, and every dessert is known for its refined flavor and the clear taste of its ingredients. In summer, shaved ice treats such as amanatsu and Uji Kintoki are also available.

The first floor has a courtyard and tatami seating, while the second floor has a large hall and tatami rooms, for a total of 124 seats. Even though the space is roomy, lines can form even on weekdays because of its popularity. Reservations are not accepted, so it’s best to visit with extra time to spare.
