Omura Park
A historic park on the nationally designated historic site of Kushima Castle, colored by cherry blossoms and irises.
This park was developed on the site of Kushima Castle, built in 1599, and has also been selected as one of the 100 Best Historical Parks in Japan. Stone walls and moats remain within the grounds, giving visitors a sense of the history of the Omura Domain in the Edo period.
In spring, Approx. 2,000 cherry trees, including the nationally designated natural monument "Omurazakura," bloom in spectacular fashion, and the park is known as a flower-viewing spot selected as one of the 100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan. During the blooming season, the entire park fills with cherry blossom viewers, and the scenery of cherry blossoms harmonizing with the castle ruins' stone walls and moats spreads out before you. In early summer, the iris garden reaches its best viewing season, with Approx. 100,000 plants and 300,000 flowers adding color. The Omura Flower Festival is held from late March to mid-June, and the park is also illuminated during the festival period. It delights visitors.
The main bailey site is also home to Omura Shrine, which enshrines the domain's founder and successive lords, allowing visitors to reflect on the domain's history. A walking path has been developed along the pond, where you can enjoy a historical stroll while viewing the trees and flowers changing with the seasons.
