Last update :

This flower park was developed through collaboration between Shimabara City and private partners on erosion control land designated after the eruption disaster of Mt. Unzen Fugendake. Opened in 2012, it welcomes visitors with colorful flower fields spreading out against the backdrop of Mt. Heisei-Shinzan.

In spring, cherry blossoms, weeping cherry blossoms, and Approx. 10 million rapeseed blossoms begin to bloom around late March, followed by azaleas in mid-April and mixed flowers that color the vast grounds from around early May to around late May. The Spring Flower Festival is usually held from late March to mid-May, with nighttime illuminations for about two days during the event. In fall, 10 million cosmos flowers and 60,000 late-blooming sunflowers appear together from early October to early November, and during the Cosmos Festival, usually held from around early October to around early November, photo frames for pictures, handmade benches, and wheelchair rentals are also available.

The name “Hibariyama” comes from a guard station where people kept watch for fire during the eruption disaster more than 200 years ago, preserving the area’s historical background to this day. Walking paths spread throughout the park, and there is also an elevated viewpoint where you can enjoy views of Mt. Heisei-Shinzan, Shimabara City, and the Ariake Sea. With photo spots and benches scattered around, this is a park where you can fully enjoy a strolling experience through scenery shaped by seasonal flowers and volcanoes from spring to fall.

The park is pretty spacious, so it’s really nice to walk around and take photos. On a clear day, you can even see Mt. Unzen, and the whole view feels wide open. There are also a few small vendors and rest areas inside, so you can grab something and snack while you stroll. I’d definitely recommend coming during flower season—it’s so worth it, and the photos turn out amazing. If you’re lucky enough to get blue skies, the scenery looks just like a postcard. Highly recommend it for couples or families looking to take a relaxing walk 👍
