The weeks from mid-April to late May each year bring Fuji Shibazakura Festival, the largest spring flower event in the Tokyo metropolitan area to Fuji Motosuko Resort at the foot of Mt. Fuji. The season rings in with 500,000 moss phlox plants bloom in a stunning shimmy of color that frames perfectly with Mt. Fuji just behind. The festival designs a unique theme each year to showcase the vibrant hues of all seven varieties of shibazakura, including McDaniel Cushion and Autumn Rose.

Many gather at this park for its speckling of Instagram-worthy spots including a heart-shaped bench, bright yellow door, and other memorable backdrops to memorialize your garden stroll. If you’re snack swing by the many food stalls selling stylishly tasty bites like the jet-black Fuji Lava Fried Chicken, inspired by volcanic rock, and the ever-popular Kikyo Shingen Mochi Soft Ice Cream.

The property also houses the ever-popular Peter Rabbit™ English Garden, a beautifully designed space created by a British garden designer, where the beloved storybook world of Peter Rabbit comes to life amid seasonal flowers.

When the weather is clear, seeing Mt. Fuji and the pink moss phlox in the same view is absolutely worth making a special trip for. It’s one of Japan’s iconic spring destinations.

The sea of pink flowers at the Fuji Shibazakura Festival is absolutely dreamy, and with Mt. Fuji in the background, it’s really photogenic. There were quite a lot of people, but the atmosphere was lively and it was definitely worth visiting!
