Last update :

Himakajima is a popular island getaway known for fresh seafood from Mikawa Bay, leisure activities like fishing and swimming, and easy access from the Nagoya area. Quietly tucked away in a residential neighborhood about a 5-minute walk up the hill straight ahead from West Port, Choshinji Temple is one of the island’s leading power spots.

Enshrined in the main hall is Koyasu Kannon, the temple’s principal deity. Known as a guardian deity for safe childbirth, it draws not only island residents but also many visitors who come to pray for safe delivery while sightseeing. The temple grounds also include several other buildings, such as Bentendo Hall, which enshrines Benzaiten, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, and Amida-do Hall, where an ancient statue of Amida Nyorai is enshrined.

What stands out on the temple grounds is the variety of Jizo statues. Each one has its own character, from statues with a shape reminiscent of a cute mascot to one taking a dog for a walk, making them a delight for visitors. In front of Bentendo Hall, there is also a panel designed like the screen of a famous social media app where you can take photos with Benzaiten in the background, making it a popular photo spot.
