Shima Cafe Barca

This cafe is operated by “Maruko Suisan,” a company on Himakajima that processes, manufactures, and sells whitebait and seafood products. Just a 1-minute walk from Himakajima Higashi Port, it is easy to visit right after arriving on the island or while waiting for your return ferry.

The cafe is known for its menu featuring fresh whitebait, with the most popular item being the excellent “Fresh Whitebait Rice Bowl Set Meal,” which lets you enjoy both fresh whitebait and boiled whitebait in one dish. Other options include lunch dishes made with the island’s seafood, such as Himakajima’s famous octopus rice and curry topped with fried octopus, along with a wide selection of drinks. Takeout is also recommended, including the famous octopus skewer that gained attention after appearing in a popular gourmet drama, as well as croquettes filled with seafood, which you can enjoy in a scenic spot.

In addition to the interior, which evokes the feel of a seaside beach house, you can also dine on the open terrace overlooking the ocean. Inside the cafe, they also sell processed seafood products from Maruko Suisan and T-shirts with the cafe’s logo, making great souvenirs.
