Kamakura Kamameshi Kamakama Main Store
A specialty kamameshi restaurant where you can enjoy freshly cooked kamameshi in three ways, with condiments and broth.
This specialty kamameshi restaurant serves freshly cooked rice pot dishes prepared with traditional techniques. Each individual serving is cooked to order in its own pot and served fresh. It’s a great place to fully savor the deliciousness of Japanese rice.
One of the distinctive features of the kamameshi here is that there are three ways to enjoy it. First, try it as is and savor the original flavor of the kamameshi. Next, you can change up the taste with condiments such as seaweed, wasabi, and mitsuba placed on the table. To finish, pour in the special broth from the pot served with the kamameshi and enjoy it as ochazuke. This three-step style of enjoying different flavors is the Kamakama way of eating kamameshi. There are small bowls on the table for sharing, but adding the broth directly into the pot and enjoying the crispy scorched rice at the bottom is also recommended.
The restaurant always offers more than 30 kinds of kamameshi, centered on seafood typical of the Shonan area, including whitebait. The lineup is wide-ranging, with options such as fresh whitebait, boiled whitebait, chicken and whitebait, gomoku, and beef tongue. There are also seasonal recommendations, so each visit brings a chance to enjoy flavors of the season. Monthly small side dishes and local Kamakura craft beer are also available. It’s a nice spot to stop by for a daytime drink while sightseeing.
