A facility that brings together Sakai’s traditional industries, including cutlery, chusen dyeing and wazarashi cloth, incense, kelp products, rugs, and carp streamers, in a city that has long flourished as a port town.
Renovated in 2021–2022, the facility has a stylish atmosphere. It displays a wide variety of materials and products that showcase the history and production methods of different traditional industries, allowing visitors to explore Sakai’s manufacturing culture in depth. You can also watch demonstrations by artisans, such as knife sharpening and Japanese sweets making, and take part in hands-on experiences like incense and Japanese sweets making. The masterful skills performed right before your eyes are not to be missed.
On the first floor, the “TAKUMI SHOP” sells traditional industrial products such as knives, chusen dyeing and wazarashi cloth, incense, and kelp products, as well as Sakai specialties like Japanese sweets, tea, and sake. On the second floor is the Sakai Hamono Museum “CUT,” which highlights the appeal of Sakai cutlery and introduces the history, types, and manufacturing process of knives widely used even by professional chefs through actual items and illustrations.
