Kyotango City sits at the northernmost edge of northern Kyoto Prefecture, an area known as “Kyoto by the Sea.” Yuhigaura Onsen, a hot spring resort around Hamazume Yuhigaura Beach, is popular for its spectacular views, especially the vivid pink sunsets seen from spring to summer.
The alkaline simple hot spring water is known as “beauty-enhancing water” for its excellent skin-beautifying effects. The area has around 40 ryokan inns, guesthouses, glamping facilities, and other accommodations, where guests can enjoy the famous sunset from open-air baths and guest rooms. It draws especially many visitors in summer during beach season and in winter, when Matsuba crab is in season.
The surrounding area also offers plenty to enjoy, from seaside photo spots such as the large wooden “Beach Swing Yurari” and the illuminated “YUHIGAURA” monument at night, to marine activities like SUP, surfing, and fishing.
