This atmospheric hot spring inn in Fukuji Onsen, Okuhida Onsenkyo, was created by relocating and restoring traditional houses more than 150 years old. Irori hearths, massive beams, wooden doors, and other elements of traditional Japanese architecture fill the inn, offering a relaxing stay steeped in the culture and charm of rural life.

The inn’s hot spring baths draw from abundant private sources fed by the volcanic blessings of Mt. Yakedake and Mt. Norikura. Guests can experience a variety of baths, including spacious indoor and outdoor baths, complimentary private baths with open-air tubs, and secluded outdoor baths nestled in nature outside the main building.

Meals center on mountain cuisine served around an irori hearth, with dishes featuring seasonal Hida ingredients such as Hida beef, river fish, and wild mountain vegetables. The wild plants grown in Okuhida are particularly known for their tenderness and pleasant texture.

Simple cuisine enjoyed around the warmth of an irori hearth, historic architecture, and Okuhida’s abundant natural surroundings come together to create an extraordinary stay immersed in the timeless scenery of rural Japan.
