I’ve always really enjoyed taking slow-paced trips by train. Since I had specifically planned an excursion to the Kyoto by the Sea area during this trip to Kyoto, I didn’t hesitate to make full use of the Kansai WIDE Area Pass.
I bought the five-day pass this time, and because I had carefully planned my routes in advance, it proved extremely useful. I not only took the Nara Line to stroll and shop in Uji, but also successfully rode the Hashidate and Tango Relay trains to Amanohashidate. Along the way, I even got to experience the dreamy Akamatsu sightseeing train. On the return trip, I took the Hashidate Tango no Umi from Miyazu back to Kyoto. Best of all, I could also use the pass directly on the HARUKA limited express from Kyoto to the airport, completely eliminating the hassle of buying separate tickets for each leg.
For international visitors who want to explore Kansai in depth, especially those who enjoy train travel, this pass is a great-value and useful travel companion. I highly recommend considering it when planning a trip to Kansai. Picking it up is also very convenient, as you can collect it at a Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket office.
