Iwami Ginzan, Omori area and Ginzan Area

This mine was Japan’s major producer of silver, known not only domestically but also globally. Iwami silver mine was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2007. Omori district and Ginzan district were the center of mining and economy in Sennoyama area. Between the two districts, there is the Iwami Ginzan Tourist Information Center.

What makes this place so special is that it doesn’t have the over-commercialized feel of a typical tourist old street. Because there are fewer visitors, you can slow your pace to the fullest and wander almost effortlessly, taking in this silver town that once influenced the world economy.

The beluga whale's bubble-ring performance was seriously amazing.

You can also get a close-up view of the penguins, sea lions, stingrays, jellyfish, and more.

Standing in front of the huge glass wall and watching the fish swim freely around was so relaxing and put me in a great mood.

Tonomachi Dori / Honmachi Dori (Streets)

These are main streets in the town nestled in the mountains, Tsuwano, which is called the Little Kyoto in San-in Region. Namako walls, white earthen walls with lattice windows - Edo Period’s elegance is seen in the shops in houses and old farm-style homes. Along streets, canals are built to bring in the river water, reflecting the ancient style of a castle town.

This place truly deserves its reputation as the Little Kyoto of the San'in region, tucked away in a basin surrounded by mountains.
Especially along the beautiful Tonomachi Street, one side is lined with traditional samurai residences with rustic white walls, while the other side has a crystal-clear canal.
Because there are relatively fewer tourists here, it lacks the bustle of more famous destinations. Instead, it perfectly preserves a sense of secluded elegance and tranquility. It’s an ideal place to slow all the way down and enjoy a deeper, more peaceful kind of travel.

Karato market

This fish market welcomes both professionals and tourists alike for shopping. Known for Shimonoseki's specialty Fugu, as well as a market for Sea Bream and Yellowtail, it offers a variety of fresh fish caught by local fishermen. The popular weekly event "Ikiiki-bakangai" also draws crowds every weekend.

I had my first fugu meal here. There are also restaurants nearby if you want more dining options.
Inside the market, you can buy fresh sashimi and seafood, along with dried goods, souvenirs, and all kinds of other items.

Motonosumi Shrine

The Motonosumi Shrine, located in Yuyatsuo, Nagato City, is said to be a power spot in Yamaguchi.

This place was once selected by CNN as one of the 31 most beautiful places in Japan, and I felt so lucky to capture the red torii gates, the blue sky, the white clouds, and the Sea of Japan all in one shot.
The weather is absolutely crucial here. On a bright, sunny day, the visual impact and color contrast are incredible.
Walking along this cliffside slope under the blue sky and white clouds, the experience feels deeply moving both to the senses and to the soul.

Tsunoshima Bridge

The Tsunoshima Bridge opened in 2000. The bridge connects the mainland side of Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, with the remote island of Tsunoshima. With a total length of 1,780 meters, it is one of the longest bridges over a remote island in Japan that can be crossed for free.

This is exactly the place that amazed travelers from across Japan and around the world, thanks to the countless iconic commercials filmed here by major car brands like Lexus and Nissan, all capturing that sense of smooth motion and the beauty of speed. It truly feels like a dreamlike bridge floating on the sea.

Ginzan Onsen

This hot spring resort was developed along with the Nobesawa Silver Mine which prospered in the Edo Period. After the mine was closed, it was turned into a therapeutic onsen resort until a flood destroyed it in 1913. By early Showa Period, local businesses have helped restore the village close to the current landscape with western-style wooden multi-story buildings on either side of Ginzan River.

Ginzan Onsen in winter is the ultimate, most perfect expression of Taisho Romance.
As night falls, thick snow settles over the rooftops of the rustic three- and four-story wooden inns, forming marshmallow-like caps of snow. In an instant, the whole hot spring town transforms into a dreamy silver-white world, completely set apart from everything else.

"Hakone Rusk" at Grand Riviere Hakone

Grand Riviere Hakone has its main store in Sengokuhara, famous for its silvergrass meadow. The signature product, Hakone Rusk, is a rusk bread made from a unique blend of flour, sliced and baked to a perfect crisp. It has a rich buttery aroma, a crispiness, and a light texture that melts easily in the mouth.

They don’t sell it everywhere, so if you happen to see it, you should definitely grab some. It’s seriously delicious.
If you come across a special edition package, definitely go for it.

Ukokkei-an “Silkie Egg Castella”

A signature product from Ukokkei-an, which operates a dedicated farm center for raising silky chickens deep in the mountains of Kanazawa, Ishikawa, surrounded by lush trees. True to its name, it’s made with plenty of fresh eggs laid by silky chickens as a main ingredient, and each loaf is carefully baked by skilled craftsmen from preparation through baking.

The first time I passed by, I tried the gold leaf ice cream and thought it was so rich. Then I went back and bought the pudding and the Silkie egg gold leaf castella too.

The egg flavor is super rich, and now whenever I see a store selling it, I always buy one. It’s also sold on the departure floor (2nd floor) at Komatsu Airport.

But sometimes you might not be able to get one because it sells out.

Gono Line

The JR Gono Line is a 147-km-long local train line running from Higashi-Noshiro Station in Akita Prefecture to Kawabe Station in Aomori Prefecture. The line runs along the coast of the Sea of Japan, and passengers can enjoy the spectacular scenery that the Tohoku region is known for.

Watching the ocean views along the coast was so uplifting.

We happened to catch the Resort Shirakami train, and it made a short stop at Senjojiki Station.
That gave us a chance to step off onto the platform, look out at the Sea of Japan,
and enjoy the sea breeze, walk on the huge wave-cut rock terrace, and take some photos.
