Ukokkei-an “Silkie Egg Castella”

A signature product from Ukokkei-an, which operates a dedicated farm center for raising silky chickens deep in the mountains of Kanazawa, Ishikawa, surrounded by lush trees. True to its name, it’s made with plenty of fresh eggs laid by silky chickens as a main ingredient, and each loaf is carefully baked by skilled craftsmen from preparation through baking.

The first time I passed by, I tried the gold leaf ice cream and thought it was so rich. Then I went back and bought the pudding and the Silkie egg gold leaf castella too.

The egg flavor is super rich, and now whenever I see a store selling it, I always buy one. It’s also sold on the departure floor (2nd floor) at Komatsu Airport.

But sometimes you might not be able to get one because it sells out.

Gono Line

The JR Gono Line is a 147-km-long local train line running from Higashi-Noshiro Station in Akita Prefecture to Kawabe Station in Aomori Prefecture. The line runs along the coast of the Sea of Japan, and passengers can enjoy the spectacular scenery that the Tohoku region is known for.

Watching the ocean views along the coast was so uplifting.

We happened to catch the Resort Shirakami train, and it made a short stop at Senjojiki Station.
That gave us a chance to step off onto the platform, look out at the Sea of Japan,
and enjoy the sea breeze, walk on the huge wave-cut rock terrace, and take some photos.

In winter, they set up a snow play area on the open space next to the hotel, with lots of activities to enjoy.

The open-air onsen at the hotel was super relaxing, and on clear nights you can look up and see a sky full of stars.

The gateway to Shikoku's skies, located Approx. 25 minutes by car from central Takamatsu, Shikoku’s key urban hub. In addition to domestic flights with access to Haneda, Narita, and Naha, it also serves as an important hub for scheduled international routes. After arriving at Takamatsu Airport, we went to the service counter to pick up coupons from a Kagawa Prefecture + China Airlines promotion. They also run some limited-time campaigns, so if you get a chance to visit Takamatsu, it’s worth checking the official website to see if there are any deals.

This time, we saved on round-trip transportation between the airport and our hotel in the city, got a discount coupon for Ritsurin Garden admission, and even for the Shodoshima ferry. (Be aware that there’s an expiration date.)

There are also related products for sale on the departure floor, and they have tons of udon brands.

Meguro River

The Meguro River flows through the Setagaya, Meguro, and Shinagawa wards of Tokyo until it reaches Tokyo Bay.

Every cherry blossom season, this becomes a super popular spot for viewing the sakura.

We also stopped by the famous nearby Starbucks and bought a limited-store 2026 cherry blossom keychain charm.
During cherry blossom season, reservations are required to enjoy the Starbucks inside while admiring the beauty of the blossoms 🌸

SHIBUYA SKY

An observation facility offering a 360-degree panoramic view of the Tokyo cityscape from a height of approximately 230 meters above the ground. Located on the 14th, 45th, 46th and rooftop of Shibuya Scramble Square, the tallest building in the Shibuya area, there are three zones: "SKY GATE," "SKY STAGE" and "SKY GALLERY.

Sunset is the most popular time slot. You need to book and buy tickets online in advance, and it’s hard to get tickets on the day of your visit. Definitely something to keep in mind if you plan to come here.

From Haneda Airport, you can catch domestic flights to destinations all over Japan.
I also like flying from here because it’s close to the city center, so getting into Tokyo after landing is quick and convenient.

Mt. Moriyoshi at an elevation of 1,454 meters, the ski resort boasts an abundant amount of snow and high-quality powder snow. The gondola rides up to the summit station, located at an elevation of 1,200 meters, and long ski runs can be enjoyed all the way down to the foot of the mountain.

On this trip, we rode the charmingly retro Akita Nairiku Line, got off at Aniai Station, and then transferred to a car.

This place offers skiing, including rental gear, and you can also see the snow monsters up close and really experience the incredible beauty of nature.

Oga Peninsula

In northwestern Akita, a peninsula rich in nature sticks out into the Japan Sea. It is known nationally for Namahage of Oga which was registered as an UNESCO iIntangible Cultural Heritage in 2018. Namahage of Oga is a traditional event that takes place in over 80 areas of Oga Peninsula on the new year’s eve.

The peninsula has a perfect coastline.
The hotel serves the famous stone-grilled fish soup, and it was incredibly fresh and delicious. The chef was amazing—moving the glowing hot stones around, and in no time a fresh, flavorful fish soup was ready.
