The cave adventure at Akiyoshido is a must-do for travelers who love exploring!

On my first visit, I didn’t take the standard route. Instead, we headed underground. My favorite moment was when the guide asked us to turn off all our headlamps so we could experience the pitch-black silence inside the cave. All we could hear was the gentle sound of flowing water, and it really helped us quiet our minds.

Along the way, the guide also taught us how to observe the rocks and stalactites. I had no idea the bronze stone used for Todaiji Temple also came from here!

The whole activity took about two hours. It was physically demanding, and I was drenched in sweat, but seeing the incredibly beautiful blue-green underground lake at the end was the best reward and surprise. Highly recommended!!!
