Located in the city, Kyoto's Chion-in is grand and solemn, yet it also hides a secluded cherry blossom spot undisturbed by most of the noisy tourists.

This time, I came in the early evening, just in time to avoid the crowded daytime rush and enjoy a rare moment of peace and quiet in Kyoto. I bought a ticket and walked in as the sun gradually sank into the twilight, climbing the wide, even stone steps. Towering ancient trees stood all around in deep silence, while cherry blossoms blooming in early spring welcomed visitors in the slightly cool evening breeze. When I reached the magnificent main hall, the last rays of the setting sun were falling on the wooden temple building. The golden sunlight blended with the pale pink and white cherry blossoms, creating an unforgettable, dreamlike scene.

Once the sky had gone completely dark, the seasonal spring illumination of the cherry blossoms came on. Soft lights illuminated the ancient temple and reflected off the cherry blossoms in full bloom against the night sky—pure beauty. Without having to push through crowds, quietly gazing up at the illuminated cherry blossoms and calming your mind in this sacred, peaceful temple is definitely the ultimate cherry blossom viewing experience in Kyoto.
