8. Take Full Advantage of the Convenience of Streetcars and Buses (With Information on Passes ♪)

If you want to visit the said major spots, streetcars and buses are recommended for almost all of the popular tourist attractions.

1. Streetcars

The whole line of a streetcar running on the streets is only 10.9 km long, and it takes only 1 hour 40 minutes from the start to the terminal. But every day over 16,000 persons take streetcars, which are a dispensable mode of public transportation.

Streetcars run every 6 to 12 minutes during the day and will take you to the main tourist attractions, including Hakodate Station, Motomachi, the Bay Area, Goryokaku and Yunokawa. A fare costs between 210 to 250 yen, which is paid when alighting.

One-Day Passes for Streetcars

A streetcar fare costs an adult 210 to 250 yen. If you are to visit more than three tourist attractions in a day, the one-day pass priced at 600 yen (300 yen for a child) will be cheaper. The passes are sold at the Tourist Information Center located inside JR Hakodate Station, and can also be purchased in inns, hotels and convenience stores, as well as directly from the driver. The passes come with a map of the line and coupons for some spots, stores and restaurants.♪( Name in Japanese: Shiden One-day Pass )

2. Buses

Buses are another convenient means of transportation, offering direct access to various tourist attractions, including Mount Hakodate Ropeway and Goryokaku Tower. The “Motomachi & Bay-area Shuyu-go” bus, which operates on a continuous loop between Hakodate Station and the Bay Area/Motomachi, is another convenient option.

Hakodate Bus One-Day Pass “Kanpass”

Hakodate Bus One-Day Pass “Kanpass” is recommended to tourists to several spots. It costs 800 yen (400 yen for a child). With it, you can take unlimited ride on all lines of buses including Mountain bus for Mount Hakodate, Goryokaku Bus, and Motomachi & Bay Area Shuyu-Go! (Name in Japanese: Kanpass)

The passes are sold at the Tourist Information Center located inside JR Hakodate Station, and can also be purchased in inns, hotels and convenience stores. You only need show it to the driver when alighting, and it is very convenient.♪

3. Hakodate Bus & Streetcar Pass! One-Day Pass / Two-Day Pass

If you are to take several streetcars and buses in some days, you can purchase bus & streetcar passes. One-day passes and two-day passes are available. The passes are sold at the Tourist Information Center located inside Hakodate Station, and can also be purchased in inns, hotels and convenience stores.
