The Appeal of Tokushima’s 3 Areas to Know Before Your Trip

Tokushima can be divided into three areas, each with its own attractions and highlights.
Knowing the appeal of each area and its popular sightseeing spots will make it easier to plan your trip to Tokushima.

The Eastern Area, Where You Can See the Naruto Strait Whirlpools

During spring and fall spring tides, the whirlpools can reach 20–30m in diameter and are said to be the largest in the world.
Tokushima City also has many sightseeing spots, and most of them are within walking distance of Tokushima Station, so if you want to visit a variety of places in a short time, be sure to explore Tokushima City along with Naruto City.
Another famous spot is Mt. Yamainudake, with an elevation of Approx. 1,000m, known for its beautiful natural scenery.

The Southern Area, Known for Spectacular Scenery Formed by Coastlines and Mountains

The southern area is lined with beautiful Pacific coastline.
It has many appealing beach spots, led by Ote Coast, which is crowded with surfers during the season.
It also has spectacular viewpoints such as Cape Gamoda and Senba Sea Cliffs.
Inland, the mountains spread out, offering grand natural scenery shaped by mountains, rivers, and waterfalls.
There are fewer famous sightseeing spots here, but with fewer people and beautiful mountain and sea views to enjoy at a relaxed pace, it is one of Tokushima’s hidden gems.
