Kurushima Kaikyo Service Area

Enjoy the World’s First Triple Suspension Bridge and Beautiful Nature at this Service Area.

Last update :

The Kurushima Kaikyo Service Area is a service area along the Setouchi Shimanami Kaido, which connects Honshu and Shikoku, and it is located on the highway’s Shikoku side in Ehime Prefecture’s Imabari City. It is also a popular tourist destination thanks to its view overlooking the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge, the world’s first triple suspension bridge.

There is an outdoor observation area, but we recommend the observation terrace on the 2nd floor of the building, which is a spectacular spot that offers a view of the Kurushima Strait, which is one of Japan’s three major storm currents, the Kurushima Strait Bridge, and the islands dotting the Seto Inland Sea.

The food court on the building’s 1st floor has large glass walls, so you can take your time enjoying a meal while admiring the stunning scenery. Other shops outside also sell a variety of local dishes from Imabari City.

Also, mikan (a mandarin orange-like citrus fruit) are a specialty of Ehime Prefecture, and the prefecture is also famous for having taps that dispense mikan juice. This service area’s facility also has one of these taps, so be sure to try it out to commemorate your trip! (Paid)

The shops are packed with specialty goods from Ehime, so be sure to pick out some souvenirs! Also, be sure not to miss the art piece based on the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge!
The Shimanami Pin, splashed with a prism of bright colors that represent the equally multi-faceted, fun destinations nearby. Its become an extra-popular photo stop since it was first set up in December 2020.

Highlights

  • We recommend looking out over the observation terrace on the building’s 2nd floor for its higher line of sight compared to the outdoor observation area.
  • Various local dishes and specialties from Ehime Prefecture are available for purchase.
  • On designated nights, you can see the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge beautifully illuminated.
  • There is a space where you can relax on free-use massage chairs and tatami mats in the 2nd floor’s Refresh Room.
