Kumano-Nachi Taisha is the main shrine of over 4000 Kumano Shrines dotting Japan. This waterfall stands within the holy area, The grandest fall in Japan is 133m-tall, 13m-wide at the mouth, where water begins to fall, and the plunge pool is 10m-deep, and pours over 1 ton/second of water through three wedges which merges as one fall, thus called “Three Stream Fall.” It is Wakayama’s notable scenic spot that represents the traditional faith at Nachi Mountain - “Water is the mother of life.”

At the best viewing spot close to the magnificent fall, there is a platform, which you can use with admissions (adult 300yen, elementary and middle schoolers 200yen) without reservation. A sip of the clear water in the pool is believed to grant long life.

The source of the fall is the water from Mt. Ogumotorisan Ridges deep in the Nachi Mountain that feeds many other waterfalls. This realm is designated as Yoshino-Kumano National Park Special Area. The primeval forest, a national natural treasure, is nearby, offering a great place for hiking on the way from the Shine.
