The Michi-no-Eki station is located at Kyoto Maizuru Port, known as the most extensive fishery base in Kyoto Prefecture. The seafood market, one of the largest on the Sea of Japan side, boasts an area of about 1,580 square meters and is filled with fresh seafood landed at the port of Maizuru. Fresh fish brokers run three stores from the Kyoto Fisheries Cooperative Maizuru Fish Market, and the freshness and variety of seafood they offer are unsurpassed. The freshness and variety of the seasonal delicacies of Maizuru, such as Iwagaki-oysters and Torigai (Japanese cockle) in the summer and crabs in the winter, are available at reasonable prices. It is fun to walk around the stores filled with energetic calls.

A service where you can have your purchased seafood prepared on the spot, such as sashimi, and eat them at the rest area and a BBQ spot (500 yen per person) where you can enjoy seafood barbecued your purchases from the stores from 11:00am to 3:00pm (last entry at 2:00pm) on only weekends and holidays special are also popular. There are many dining spots, such as sushi restaurants where you can taste fresh fish, and restaurants where Kaisen-Don (seafood rice bowls) is a popular menu. Specialty stores sell Maizuru's famous Kamaboko (fish cakes), processed marine products, local sake, and a farmer's market with vegetables, fruits, and other Maizuru specialties. It's an excellent place to stop by and buy souvenirs.

There is a foreigner information counter in the market, and tourist information pamphlets in English, Chinese (simplified and traditional), and Korean are also available.
