A cafe specializes in tea where you can taste Uji tea, a specialty of Uji, while enjoying a view of the Uji River. You can choose your favorite Uji-cha tea leaves from the tea menu and brew your own tea following the instruction by certified staff as a Japanese tea instructor. The instructor explains each process in detail kindly, so even those who have never brewed tea before can feel at ease. You will also be taught unusual ways to enjoy the flavors of the tea leaves after brewing, which is to pour ponzu (Japanese citrus juice) or salt on them. There are three types of tea on the menu: Uji gyokuro, Uji matcha, and Uji sencha with sweets.
Suppose you want furthermore to learn about tea. In that case, they also offer a workshop Class, "How to Brew a tea Class," visitors can learn how to brew and taste delicious tea while listening to a talk on the history and benefits of gyokuro, matcha, and sencha teas, which are representative of Uji tea. There is also "Chakabuki(tea testing game)" in which participants try to guess the name of the tea from several kinds of teas (takes about 2 hours) for the five different five-tea competition, and for the five different three-tea competition (takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes) for three different five-tea competition.
