Maikohan Arashiyama has opened this second shop, while its main tempura shop is located in Gion Area. Their sophisticated tempura is served in the one-bite size concept that “even a petite mouth of maiko can handle.” The restaurant is located along the river and near the famous Togetsukyo Bridge crossing. Wide window-side seats offer a perfect view of the ambient Arashiyama landscape.
Maikohan Arashiyama serves a standard menu of eight seasonal vegetable tempura and a “sixteen colored assortment of tempura on sticks” you can choose 8 out of 18 tempura ingredients. The tempura are arranged on a plate in an attractive alignment, making sure the menu set appeals to your hunger. The stick tempura includes a range of local specialties such as Kyo Aka Jidori chicken, manganji pepper and yuba tofu skin, as well as limited seasonal ingredients such as crab, hamo (pike conger), and nanohana (spring weed). You can enjoy your tempura with their sweet flavored special sauce, or choose from matcha salt, kotohikihama salt from Northern Kyoto Prefecture, or a yuzu spice mixture.
The Dobin mushi set (a tea pot style dish) is a limited soup offer of the Arashiyama shop. The flavor comes from an aromatic broth, with Kyo Aka Jidori chicken meatballs. Enjoy placing your tempura on the steamed rice and pouring this flavorful soup over them. Plum wine jelly arrives as the final treat on this menu. The restaurant accepts only prebooked guests in 6 time frames with a 90-minute limit.
