The Missing Post Office created in 2013 as part of the art project at the 2nd Setouchi Triennale was visited by many people from home and abroad and was the subject of talk.

The "Missing Post Office" is a work done by Saya Kubota of contemporary artist, and the previous Awashima Post Office built over 50 years ago was utilized as it is, and it was reborn as a post office where letters without a recipient are gathered. Mr. Nakata, the former postmaster of the Awashima Post Office, was appointed as the postmaster.

When you write your thoughts and private feelings that you want to convey in a letter or a postcard and post it with "Missing Post Office poste restante (general delivery)", any letter addressed to anyone will be delivered and stored in the " Missing Post Office Box". Even now, the postcards with "I want to convey my thoughts to someone." are gathered at this post office from all over the country. The post office is open only on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month, and anyone can read the postcards delivered here.
