Yokokan Garden

A water garden located along the outer moat of Fukui Castle, which is a representative water garden built between the early and middle of the Edo period. This garden was the villa of the Fukui lord, the Matsudaira family, and was called “Osensui Yashiki” in the Edo period. Visitors can leisurely look out the garden from the sitting room just as the eye level of the Fukui lord once did.

The sukiya-style building surrounded by Kaiyu-shiki rinsen garden (a circuit style garden which features a path around the ground) is featured with a pond without a central island and the building very close to the pond surface which hugs an expansive body of water, with which visitors can enjoy seasonal scenery during walking.

The building comprise 6 rooms including　Gozanoma (Lord’s audience room), Otsukiminoma (Moon room), kitchen, and bathroom, and a large pond spread beyond Doen (a veranda with dirt floor) attached to the room.
Sunshine is wavering reflected from water on the ceiling, the frame of "Hanagashirakuzushi" window which was made in the shape of a Japanese traditional comb, the unique Japanese beauty is scattered throughout.
