Habutae Mochi Sohonpo Matsuokaken Main Store
とろける食感と伝統の味。福井発祥の羽二重餅。
Habutae Mochi Sohonpo Matsuokaken is a long-established wagashi shop known as the birthplace of Fukui’s famous confection, habutae mochi. Founded in 1897, it continues to preserve the original flavor as its originator. This sweet was created when the founder expressed wagashi through the texture of silk.
The signature item is habutae mochi. It is known for its soft, delicate texture. It melts gently in your mouth like silk, with the mild sweetness of glutinous rice spreading softly across the palate. Made with great care, it contains no additives at all. The shop also offers a range of products made with habutae mochi, including habutae monaka and habutae dorayaki.
Matsuokaken Main Store also has an attached Japanese-style cafe. You can enjoy freshly made habutae mochi and habutae dorayaki there. Another highlight is that they are served on tableware by ceramic artists active in Fukui. The menu also includes shaved ice made using a special kanna passed down since the Meiji era and mizuyokan served in a single slab. As the menu changes with the seasons, each visit offers a chance to experience Fukui’s seasonal flavors with all five senses.
