Tajima Glass “Edo Kiriko, Hoshi Kiriko Glass Pair”
The jewel-like brilliant glasses made by an experienced craftsman.
Edo Glass is cut with industrial diamond to add patterns on the surface (Kiriko process) to turn it into Edo Kiriko. It was designated as a traditional craft by Tokyo in 1985 and by the Minister of METI in 2002. Its excellence is recognized by the prefecture and the country.
Edo Glass means the glass products made in the traditional method which began in the Edo Period. Glass is melted in a furnace as hot as 1500°C (2732°F), then blows the raw glass into a shape. Tajima Glass does the buffing process, the last task of Kiriko cutting, by hand to adjust the sensitive colors and fine cuttings. From making glasses to the cutting process, all are done by hand, thus, all of their products are original one of a kind.
Hoshi (Star) Kiriko is the traditional pattern which depicts stars. The contrast between the clear cuts and the colored glass is dazzling and the reflecting light adds intriguing expressions. Pour beer or chilled drinks and enjoy the dancing light in the glass.
Hoshi Kiriko depicts stars.
All are done by hand, thus, each product is original, one of a kind.
Enjoy looking at dazzling patterns and the reflecting light in the glass.
Edo Glass is designated as a traditional craft by Tokyo and by the Minister of METI.
