This shop opened in 1955 while Okinawa was still governed by the USA as the first Awamori wholesale shop on the island. Awamori has a long history and there are more than 1000 varieties. The owner wanted to offer all the brands of Awamori and came up with Awamori’s miniature bottles. Their handy size was loved and they became popular souvenirs, spreading Awamori as part of Okinawa’s culture to the island and beyond.

The shop offers Awamori of Okinawa’s main island, but also many items from isolated islands and vintage goods - a great line-up for Awamori fans. Hoping to find a rare treasure not found anywhere else, quite a few visitors frequent this shop.

In 2022, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Okinawa’s return to Japan, Kyan Shop offered a mania-pleaser, the miniature bottle set with reproduced labels of 45 distilleries in Okinawa being sold around the time of Oiinawa’s return.
